After the European Commission had warned three countries - Curaçao, Ghana and Korea - that they were not doing enough to fight illegal fishing in November 2013, it will now grant each country an extra six months to improve the situation. The Commission will review their progress made at the end of this period.

The fight against illegal fishing (IUU)

Public consultation

In 2007 the European Commission launched a consultation to assess the effectiveness and the socio-economic impacts of further measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU). Interested parties were invited to express their views on the nine fields of action outlined by the Commission, and to present their opinions as to what additional measures would be appropriate to further reinforce the policy.

The consultation closed on 12 March 2007.
