The European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission today reached an agreement on how to better protect deep-sea fish, sponges and corals while maintaining the viability of the European fishing industry. The agreement brings the EU rules on deep-sea fisheries, which date back to 2003, in line with the sustainability targets enshrined in the EU's reformed Common Fisheries Policy.

Consultation on the possible revision of the southern hake and Norway lobster recovery plan

Public consultation

In September 2011, the European Commission launched a public consultation to gather information and ideas on all relevant aspects (including the management measures) of the Southern hake and Norway lobster fisheries in ICES divisions VIIIc and IXa (Atlantic waters next to the Iberian peninsula and the Cantabrian Sea), so as to reflect on how Council Regulation 2166/2005 could be modified in order to ensure the sustainability of the stocks.

This consultation was closed on 7.11.2011.
