Ms Maria Damanaki, Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will participate in a high level meeting concerning the Atlantic in Galway, Ireland on May 24 and 25.
Coastal development and sustainable maritime tourism were the focus themes of this year's edition of European Maritime Day. For two days in Valletta, Malta, experts from all maritime sectors and from all over Europe discussed how to drive the tourism industry forward and maintain its position not only as a sector for sustainable growth, but also as a crucial driver for the wider economy and a key contributor to the EU's Blue Growth agenda.

Генерална дирекция „Морско дело и рибарство“ на Европейската комисия отговаря за две области на политиката:

• интегрирана морска политика

• обща политика в областта на рибарството (ОПР).

Дирекцията се ръководи от Лоури Евънс (генерален директор) в рамките на политическата отговорност на комисар Мария Даманаки English (en) .

С персонал от около 400 души, това е една от най-малките дирекции в Комисията.
