About the Ispra Site Management (ISM)
The mission of the Ispra Site Management (ISM) Directorate is to make the Ispra site a safe, secure and attractive working environment by providing efficient customer-driven services to facilitate the current and future scientific activities of the Ispra Institutes; while ensuring that JRC Ispra acts as a good neighbour to the community at large; to share best practices for site management aiming at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of relevant services at corporate level.
To make the Ispra site one of the most efficient and attractive scientific and research campuses in Europe. To expand site management services to JRC corporate level.
ISM has elaborated a set of objectives providing a multi-annual perspective with respect to four principal areas for operational and organisational development:
Commitment to the 20/20/20 targets of the Europe 2020 policy initiative. This includes in particular plans for reducing the Ispra site's carbon footprint by using renewable energy and by reducing energy consumption. These actions will be performed using the environmental management system which was set up and certified according to ISO 14001 in 2010. The site is also moving towards the "Eco-management and Audit Scheme" (EMAS), in line with the other Commission premises in Brussels and Luxembourg.
- Site renewal
The objectives in this area are driven by the need to: replace old and obsolete infrastructures that are costly to heat and maintain; concentrate scientific staff and their laboratories and equipment in a few adjacent and high-performance buildings so as to maximise flexibility, efficiency and multi-disciplinary exchange; comply with safety and other legal requirements; and ensure the site is attractive to the best scientific talents.
- Service delivery
ISM is a service organisation providing the Ispra-based scientific Institutes and their staff, as well as other Commission staff on-site, with all they need to be able to do their job. To ensure smooth customer relationships, ISM has put in place tools such as regular stakeholder meetings, customer satisfaction surveys and a suggestions & complaints mailbox.
- Organisational capability and culture
This objective addresses ISM's commitment to the continuous development of its organisation and staff. Particular is paid to staff engagement and leadership development.
