1st EFAST Workshop - Challenges, Needs and Open Questions

EFAST (Design Study of a European Facility for Advanced Seismic Testing) is a joint project financed by the European Commission that foresees the study of all the aspects regarding the design of a major testing facility in Europe that would complement and collaborate with the existing ones.

During the 1st EFAST Workshop, co-organised by the JRC Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPSC), some 30 experts from all around the world will make presentations regarding the needs, the technology, the design, and the operation of seismic testing infrastructures.

Round tables on these topics will also be held in order to stimulate open debate. The conclusions of this workshop will specify recommended solutions and required performances. The aim of this workshop is to elaborate proper drawing guidelines for a plan, in which the new infrastructure with European dimension could consist of a new single-site facility integrated with selected existing ones and, possibly, upgraded to meet new network requirements.
