Safe nuclear materials for peaceful purposes only
The European Union helps to monitor that Europe's nuclear power plants remain safe and secure. JRC scientists play a crucial role to help ensuring that no radioactive material is diverted from nuclear installations and in verifying that such materials are used for peaceful purposes only.
Whenever illegal nuclear materials are seized inside Europe or at its borders, a team of JRC scientists is available to determine its composition and origin.

La Unión Europea ayuda a controlar la seguridad de las centrales nucleares. Los científicos del JRC ejercen una labor fundamental para garantizar que ningún material radiactivo sea sustraído de las instalaciones nucleares y para comprobar que estos materiales se utilizan sólo con fines pacíficos.
Siempre que se incauta material nuclear ilegal dentro de Europa o en sus fronteras, un equipo de científicos del JRC está preparado para determinar su origen y composición.

L’Union européenne (UE) aide au contrôle de la sûreté et de la sécurité des centrales nucléaires européennes. Les scientifiques du JRC apportent une aide cruciale dans les contrôles visant à s’assurer que les matières radioactives ne sont pas détournées des installations nucléaires, et que leur utilisation reste bien limitée à des usages pacifiques.
En cas de saisie de matières nucléaires illégales dans l’UE ou à ses frontières, une équipe de scientifiques du JRC est toujours prête à déterminer leur composition et leur origine.

De Europese Unie helpt te controleren dat de kerncentrales in Europa veilig blijven. Wetenschappers van het JRC spelen een essentiële rol te zorgen dat radioactief materiaal niet ontvreemd wordt van nucleaire installaties en bij de controle of dergelijke materialen uitsluitend voor vreedzame doeleinden worden gebruikt.
