Reference materials for food safety and microbiology
Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements
Acronym: Food RM
The action concentrates on the development of new certified reference materials and quality control materials and the reliable provision of crucial reference materials for food and microbiology. JRC's Community Reference Laboratories (CRLs) for mycotoxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals will be supported through the provision of suitable materials for proficiency testing, method development and validation. Research activities focus on the development of cutting-edge methods for the characterisation of candidate reference materials regarding mycotoxins and microbiological measurands, respectively, the development of improved methods and materials for the control of veterinary drugs in food, the development of matrix materials for PAH analysis, and the improvement of metrological approaches to quantify allergenic proteins in foodstuff. The activities are directed to provide reference materials for the calibration and quality control of important measurements of food and feed, thus facilitating the implementation of existing and upcoming EU legislation for policy actors, control laboratories and industry.
