Greenhouse Gases in Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses
Institute for environment and sustainability
As part of its institutional role within the European Commission
Greenhouse Gas Inventory System, the Action GHG-AFOLU will further
contribute to improve Member States' submissions in the Agriculture,
Forestry and other Land Use (AFOLU) sector to this Inventory System; by
In collaboration with JRC IES Action GAPCC, the Action will also assess the impacts of atmospheric pollution and climate on emissions and sinks from/in the AFOLU sector. The focus is on the greenhouse gases CO2, CH4 and N2O but also on NH3, Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds (BVOCs) and emissions from biomass burning which are intimately connected to the AFOLU sector.
The Action has built-in synergies with related JRC Actions, in particular GAPCC (regarding biogenic emission inventory), ICPA-EEI (regarding data support to ecosystem modelling), TREES-3 (joint activity on reducing deforestation in developing countries) , FOREST (joint activity on forest resources/biomass stocks estimates and emissions from biomass burning), SOIL (joint activity on soil carbon monitoring for Kyoto), Biofuels task Force BioF (contribute expertise on environmental impact and GHG budget) and AGRI-ENV (contribute NH3- and GHG emissions to the AGRI-indicator framework).
