Rural development, agriculture and fisheries

Tractor in a field Timely information on European crop yields and harvest plays a key role in the management of the EU Common Agriculture Policy (CAP). Via its crop forecasting system, the JRC can for example monitor crop vegetation growth, include the short-term effects of meteorological events on crop productions, and provide yearly forecasts on European crop predictions. As part of the Seventh Framework Programme, this system will be developed to include estimates of world production to provide data on main crop quantities in the export market. Other activities include research on the agri-environment and the marine environment as well as socio-economic studies.

JRC's activities in this area are organised in two sub agendas:

  • Rural Development and agriculture
  • Fisheries and maritime policy and marine environment
