European research area
The concept of the European Research Area (ERA) aims at making European research more co-ordinated, efficient, innovative and attractive to Europe's best scientists.
JRC continues to play a part in the construction of ERA, first and foremost through actually implementing its work programme: its scientific actions and collaborative research projects include, by their very nature, strong elements of networking at European level. Furthermore, the JRC pays special attention to involving partners in the new Member States and Candidate Countries, provides training facilities linked to its research activities and opens its infrastructures to researchers from other institutions and research bodies. The JRC's dedicated innovation and technology transfer activities also contribute to the ERA goals.
In terms of scientific actions, the ERAWATCH is especially noteworthy. ERAWATCH is a European web-based service that presents information on national and regional research policies, actors, organisations and programmes of the 27 Member States and other countries (countries associated with the Community's Framework Programme, China, Japan and the USA).
