The 2008 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard is now available
EU companies outpace Americans in R&D investment growth for the first time in five years
The 2008 EU R&D Industrial Investment Scoreboard is now available. R&D investment by EU companies has increased by 8.8% according to the report, published today. This compares to an increase of 8.6% in investment by American companies.
Three EU companies feature in the top ten: Nokia in 5th place, Volkswagen in 9th and Daimler in 10th. The world's biggest investor in R&D in 2008 is Microsoft.
Part of the Industrial Research Investment Monitoring activity carried out jointly by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Research Directorate-General (DG RTD) of the European Commission, the scoreboard is the fruit of research conducted by the JRC Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), with overall monitoring and guidance provided by Directorate C (European Research Area: Knowledge Economy) of DG RTD.
