2000 visitors at 'Energy Open Day'
On Saturday 6 June the JRC’s Institute for Energy (IE), together with the Dutch Energy Research Centre (ECN) held an Open Day at the Petten Research Park in North Holland for more than 2000 enthusiastic visitors. The theme of the day was “Energy Research Today for Tomorrow's Energy”. The public enjoyed numerous demonstrations, games, quizzes and visits to the unique research facilities. A particular focus of the day was on practical experiments for children and energy - related games. Children could make their own solar panels, or take photos of insects with a magnification of 100,000 using an electron microscope.
All activities aimed at giving children, families and the local community an insight into the consequences of the increasing demand for energy and the effect on our environment, and how today's innovative research can ensure a safe and sustainable future for all.
Research at the JRC-IE and ECN covers all aspects of energy from biomass to energy efficiency and hydrogen to future generation nuclear power plants.
