Technology Foresight for High-Level Decision-Makers
Continuing the collaboration started in 2007, the JRC Institute for Prospective Technological Studies and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) organise a two-block Foresight training for high-level policy and decision makers from Candidate and Potential Candidate EU Countries and a selection of Newly Independent States (NIS) and of Central Eastern European Countries (CEE). The first block takes place at IPTS on 14-15 October 2008. The second training block is envisaged to take place in Budapest, Hungary on 2-3 December 2008.
The training, attended by a group of 30 high-level decision-makers, focuses on foresight and its impacts on policy and decision making. This initiative is aimed at raising participant's awareness on the potential of foresight as a policy and decision making support tool, taking into consideration each participating country particular context, as well as to enable participants to conduct their own foresight activities.
The training takes advantage of the practical experiences from the countries of origin of the participants and it also requires participants to prepare a foresight project that can be implemented and locally supported in their countries. During the training, tutors and partipants make extensive use of the European Commission's FORLEARN online guide developed by the JRC-IPTS.
