The latest edition of the JRC Newsletter has been published and can be downloaded here. In this issue: Editorial by Professor Patrick Cunningham, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Irish government.

Among the news: Clearinghouse provides daily updates on Japanese nuclear accident; JRC scientists monitor solar storm disruption in satellite signals; new standard for data centres' can cut energy consumption by 20-50%; reduction of black carbon and ozone can halve potential temperature rise by 2050 and new generic fibre name makes its way in EU legislation. The newsletter also features a brief on analysing the robustness of university rankings and on the start of a new JRC spin-off company Nucleonica. The section on upcoming events lists among other things the 14 May JRC Ispra Open Day.

The purpose of the JRC Newsletter is to provide customers, stakeholders and staff, along with anyone interested in who we are and what we do, with a selection of recent highlights of JRC science and technology, support to European policy making, contributions to scientific events and other news of interest.
