New task force to support Euratom participation in international research

The European Commission has set up a new task force (EUROGIF) to facilitate the participation of Member States in the activities of Generation IV International Forum (GIF), an international organisation that aims to foster international R&D collaboration on advanced nuclear systems. This was announced at the annual Euratom-GIF coordination meeting, which was held in Brussels on 7-8 February 2011. The meeting was attended by representatives of the European Commission, 11 Member States and the GIF secretariat.

The task force was set up by the JRC together with the Research and Energy Directorates-General of the European Commission. It will assist the JRC in its task of keeping Member States informed on developments within GIF, and will coordinate Euroatom's participation in GIF in a more structured way. It will, among other things, set up a web portal to disseminate information amongst the Member States. The task force will be based at the JRC Headquarters in Brussels and at the Institute for Energy in Petten, the Netherlands.
