Introduction
Impact assessment gathers and presents evidence that helps in
determining possible policy options and their comparative
advantages / disadvantages. The impact assessment
runs parallel with and feeds into the development of the Commission’s
proposal.
Impact assessments accompany legislative, regulatory or other policy
proposals which have an economic, social and / or environmental impact
and which are presented in the Commission's Work Programme or Annual
Policy Strategy. Impact assessments are carried out before the proposed
activity is adopted.
In DG MARKT, the responsibility for carrying out impact assessments is shared between the operational unit concerned and unit B2, with the former being the lead service.
Detailed information about Impact Assessment in the European Commission can be found on the website of the Secretariat General.
