e-Government Conference in Cyprus

Christos Ellinides, Director in the Directorate General for Informatics, and Margarida Abecasis, Head of Unit, were both speakers at last week's e-Government Conference in Cyprus. Both presentations were extremely well received by participants and generated much interest and discussion.

The Europeone e-Government Conference brought together experts from the Commission, the Member States, the Candidate Countries and the Private Sector. The conference focused on issues related to interoperability, key enablers, cross border services, trust and privacy, new technologies tendencies, and e-procurement.

Experts discussed and exchanged ideas/experiences on how to empower European citizens and businesses in order to improve their mobility across Europe. Discussions also focused on how Governments are transforming in order to be more efficient, productive and push economic growth in these difficult global times.

2012 ICT Conference

In a time of constrained resources it is increasingly important to squeeze every possible advantage from the ubiquity of technology and the increasing possibilities offered to us by that technology.

Social media, mobile ICT, the Cloud and infinite information are offering us possibilities and tools undreamed of by public servants of previous generations.

New trends in technology coupled with a highly ICT literate societal environment across the EU are having a huge impact both on citizens’ expectations and the demands placed on public administrations as we all enter the connected world.

The Directorate General for Informatics organised a major internal conference on 4 and 5 October to examine some of these developments and trends and examine how the European Commission can make this future work for better European public administration in a very demanding environment.
