The Commission hosted a High-Level Conference on 29 January 2013 in Brussels to bolster the EU and Member States' efforts to broaden engagement to prevent violent extremism and support local actors to build more resilient societies. Ministers and other high level policy makers were invited to discuss several aspects of radicalisation with RAN members. The overarching theme of the Conference was "empowering local actors to prevent violent extremism".
The main topics that were addressed in the plenary sessions and discussed in more detail during parallel break-out sessions were:
All working groups of the RAN were present and interacted with the policy makers.
The day before, on 28 January 2013, the RAN Plenary of all RAN members and participants was held.
Ultimately, the outcomes from the event will help to shape and inform the development of new EU policy recommendations for 2013.
In the preparation of the High Level Conference, all working groups produced policy recommendations. The elaboration of such recommendations is an important aim of all working groups meetings.
