The Commission Communication “Maximising the Development Impact of Migration” adopted today will provide the basis for a common position of the EU and its Member States at the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, organised by the United Nations General Assembly on 3-4 October 2013. This event will provide a unique opportunity for policy makers and practitioners to reflect on how to work towards a global agenda for effective, inclusive and rights-based migration governance and identify measures to promote the role of migrants as agents of innovation and development.
The European Union and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are key partners in promoting cooperation in the field of migration and mobility.
On Friday 3 May, senior officials from the European Commission (DG HOME, DG DEVCO and DG ECHO), the European External Action Service and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will meet to discuss global migration, development, and crisis management issues.
It will be the first Senior Officials Meeting held within the framework of the EU-IOM Strategic Partnership.
Findings from Europol’s latest strategic analysis product – the 2013 EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report – show how the total number of terrorist attacks and related arrests in the EU significantly increased in 2012, in contrast to previous years. This and other findings in the report describe a threat from terrorism that remains strong and varied in Europe. It continues to evolve from one posed by structured groups and networks to smaller EU-based groups and solo terrorists, while the Internet remains a key facilitator for terrorism-related activities.
