Denmark decided to use the Visa Code project as a “burning platform” for changing its visa handling practices. This project was one of several in Denmark designed to promote more efficiency and quality in visa case handling. In this case, effectiveness was boosted through digitisation.
This project was considered as an important component in meeting EU targets on the Visa Code; in particular a significant reduction in time taken to process a visa. Time was reduced through digital self service, data quality, and system support for representation agreements with other EU countries.
The main beneficiaries are visa applicants applying at both Danish consulates in non-EU countries and at other EU countries’ representations which are able to handle visa applications for Denmark.
The project implemented a user friendly platform which made visa case handling more efficient and brought the existing system in line with the provisions of the Visa Code.
