It is widely understood that personal contact between people from different social groups can help break existing stereotypes and aid integration. This project supported mutual communication and exchange of experiences between settled non-EU immigrants and Czech society through direct contact between both groups.
The project was publicised by means of a media campaign throughout the Czech Republic. This included a documentary film capturing meetings between the families, for instance during joint lunches.
This project actively incorporated Czech nationals into the integration process of non-EU immigrants. The families were carefully matched so that they had similar hobbies and interests. Some 450 persons were involved in this project, in which 52 immigrant families met 52 Czech families. More than 60% of participants continued seeing each other following the end of the project.
In 2012, following the Czech example, several other EU countries implemented similar programmes.
