Establishment of a Mobile Competence Team for the promotion of council decisions

The Mobile Competence Team supports EU countries in their technical implementation of a system for the automated exchange of fingerprint and DNA data, thereby helping to prevent and prosecute crime in accordance with the EU Prüm Council decisions.

Joint Customs Operation: COLOSSEUM

Some 32 illegally trafficked artifacts were seized in this joint customs operation which, as the first such operation combating illegal trafficking of cultural goods in the EU, increased awareness of this phenomenon and techniques to prevent it.

Security at major sports events

A total of 160 senior police offers from Estonia, Lithuania and Poland received training on the coordination of security at major international sports events. This training was put into practice when they assisted with preparation for the European Basketball Men’s Championship 2011, held in Lithuania.

AUGIAS

The AUGIAS team developed tools to facilitate waste transport checks and an ‘action week’ led to some 815 transport checks in 16 EU countries. As a result, the EU Council adopted a resolution creating “EnviCrimeNet”, an informal network for countering environmental crime.

Cybercrime Investigation – developing and disseminating an accredited international training programme for the future

Some 60 law enforcement officers attended 3 pilot training courses on cybercrime, with a further 20 officers receiving a Masters Degree in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation from University College Dublin.

Operation Memory identified over 100 vehicles illegally using heating oil as fuel, and interrupted the illegal cross-border trade in mineral oils within the EU.
