Kick-off meeting of the third HTA Joint Action: 3 March 2016
The kick-off meeting of “EUNetHTA 3” (2016-2019) – the third Joint Action which aims to pave the way for sustainable cooperation on Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in Europe takes place in Amsterdam today. Building on achievements of the previous two, the specific objective of this Joint Action, which will include 75 partners from 27 EU countries, is to strengthen cooperation between HTA bodies in the EU and increase and improve joint work.
Participants to this meeting include representatives from HTA organisations, academia, patient groups, regulators, physicians and industry. Initial discussions will revolve around the types of barriers to EU cooperation on HTA that are currently encountered and potential solutions for overcoming them. Thematic workshops will discuss the goals and structures of the Joint Actions various work packages, improved collaboration with stakeholders and needs for creating a sustainable network.
The Cross Border Healthcare Directive set up an HTA Network gathering Member States representatives responsible for HTA. The Network focuses on strategic issues and adopted its strategy defining priorities on European cooperation in October 2014.
In addition, the Commission has funded cooperation among national HTA Agencies on scientific issues since the mid-1990s through research projects and three Joint Actions. With the “EUNetHTA 3” Joint Action, the Commission will have invested about 30 Million € in supporting cooperation and research in HTA.
