The Role of Veterinarians and Livestock Farmers in Food Security and Poverty Alleviation
From 19-27 February the SANCO "Vets in your daily life" campaign is at the Salon International de l'Agriculture in Paris - the largest agricultural fair in France.
In 2010 it had 1,000 exhibitors, 3500 animals and around 652000 visitors. The Salon's main focus is on animals, closely followed by regional and international cuisine, the environment and tourism.
The SANCO stand is in the largest exhibition hall where the animals are and which attracts the largest audiences. Sunday, 20 February our stand received 1600 visitors in one hour!
To attract as many people as possible we teamed up with a number of partners, including French veterinary organisations and the French Ministry of Agriculture to organise a "veterinary parcours". Over 40 veterinary students from across France are supporting us at the fair this week (they can be spotted in blue bodywarmers in one of the enclosed photos), explaining the role of the veterinarian, encouraging people to take part in the parcours, and to visit our stand.
The first weekend was a huge success. More from Paris will follow later this week…
