Commission highlights importance of animal health to human health in Paris
DG Health and Consumers
The European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers will participate in the "Salon International de l'Agriculture" organised in Paris this week.
To promote the importance of EU pet passports, the Commission's "One health" road-show will be present at the event on a stand hosted by the French veterinary association "Syndicat National des Vétérinaires d’Exercice Libéral (SNVEL)".
The road-show aims to promote the link between animal health and human health. Animal diseases are having an increasing impact on public health, therefore high standards of animal health have a positive impact on human health and consumer wellbeing. Representatives of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will also be present on the stand to highlight this link, referred to at international level as “One World, One Health”.
This link is particularly apparent as regards rabies. A video which describes the EU measures that have already been taken to eradicate rabies in the EU will be screened. The video explains to pet owners what measures they can take to prevent the rabies risk when travelling with their pets. Such measures include ensuring that pet animals have an EU pet passport and are vaccinated against rabies.
