European Pet Night celebrated in Brussels
The European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers will participate in the European Pet Night event organised in the European Parliament today.
To celebrate this event, and to promote the importance of EU pet passports, the Commission's "One health" road-show will attend the event. The road-show aims to promote the link between animal health and human health. Animal diseases are having an increasing impact on public health, therefore high standards of animal health have a positive impact on human health and consumer wellbeing.
This link is particularly apparent as regards rabies. A video which describes the EU measures that have already been taken to eradicate rabies in the EU will be screened. The video explains to pet owners what measures they can take to prevent the rabies risk when travelling with their pets. Such measures include ensuring that pet animals have an EU pet passport and are vaccinated against rabies.
The European Pet Night represents a unique opportunity to celebrate pets and their contribution to people and society. This evening reception will be opened by the host MEPs Caroline Lucas and Dr. Horst Schnellhardt.
