Harmonised EU rules for the labelling related to the absence of gluten

The European Commission adopted yesterday a Commission Regulation concerning the composition and labelling of foodstuffs suitable for people intolerant to gluten (for example people suffering from celiac disease). The new legislation will harmonise the conditions for the labelling related to the absence of gluten in food. This should enable people intolerant to gluten to identify foods appropriate to their particular dietary needs.  This harmonisation of the legislation will ensure that European consumers are protected equally in all Member States, and there are no unnecessary barriers to trade.
