First Annual Nanotechnology Safety for Success Dialogue

The Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection (DG SANCO) will organise its first nanotechnology safety seminar at the end of October. The event, titled: "1st Annual Nanotechnology Safety for Success Dialogue: the Food, Consumer, and Health Policy Perspective," will take place on October 25 and 26 at the Sofitel Brussels Europe Hotel, which is located in the city's European quarter.

The seminar's main goal is to stimulate an exchange of views between key stakeholders, who will exchange information on the latest developments in the field of nanotechnology, map the interests and concerns of stakeholders and lay the foundations of a safety road map. In particular, the workshop will review applications, risk assessment, risk management, and perceptions with respect to application of nanoscience and nanotechnologies to food, consumer products and health.

In addition, a map of stakeholders' interests and concerns will be designed. Requirements for the safe development of nanotechnologies, in particular in the food, consumer and health domains will also be reviewed. Participants, to attend by invitation, will include scientists, risk assessors, industrialists, representatives of the civil society, and public health authorities.
