Commission hosts information seminar on food hygiene, inspection and controls
An information event to outline the implication of the EU’s new rules on food and feed hygiene for third countries was hosted by the European Commission in Brussels on Tuesday. The event was organised in light of the fact that the Hygiene Package will enter into force on 1 January 2006. The aim of the event was to discuss how the application of the revised legislation on production hygiene, inspections, and controls of food and feed will affect non-EU countries. In addition to an opening address by Robert Madelin, Director General of DG Health and Consumer Protection, the agenda included briefings on EU requirements for feed, the role of the FVO, and technical assistance available to third countries wishing to export to the EU. Participants at the seminar were also updated on EU import requirements for wood packaging material.
