Media seminar on risk communication on avian and pandemic influenza, 7 July, Brussels
What is the probability of a flu pandemic outbreak in Europe? Are individual Member States prepared? What role would the European Commission play in the event of a flu pandemic? What role would the media play? Who should they contact? What is the current situation on Avian Flu? Is the virus likely to re-emerge after the summer?
In response to these and many other journalists’ questions prompted by avian flu and the prospect of a possible human flu pandemic, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Consumer Protection is organising a media briefing for journalists, which will bring together a number of leading experts from the European Commission, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organisation.
The results of a new Eurobarometer opinion survey on avian influenza will also be made available to journalists, as well as a press pack with background information and documentation on avian and pandemic influenza.
