Genetically modified maize – your chance to comment

An opinion from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on a type of genetically modified maize for food and feed uses was published on May 15. Comments on the EFSA opinion may be provided until 11 June by filling in the provided forms. The EFSA opinion relates to the request to place on the market food, feed and other products containing or consisting of genetically modified maize1507xNK603, or food and feed produced from this maize, such as flour or oil.

The opinion follows a request from biotechnology company Pioneer Hi-Bred and Mycogen Seeds to put this type of insect-protected and glyphosate (herbicide)-tolerant maize on the EU market.

The public may make comments on the opinion for 1 month, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 on genetically modified food and feed.
