The Commission organises training workshop for vet practitioners on animal welfare

Warsaw, 10-12 April 2014

The European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers along with the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe and the Polish National Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons are organising the 7 th regional workshop on animal welfare for veterinary practitioners.

It will take place on 10th - 12th April in Warsaw and is targeted at veterinarians from Poland, Austria, the Baltic Countries, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia.

The aim is to provide veterinarians with a deeper understanding of animal welfare issues. The workshop will focus on the legislation, the critical issues and species-specific assessment schemes. In addition to the theoretical presentations there will be practical sessions on-farm and in a zoo, where participants can put their knowledge into practice.

An additional half-day session, funded by the Polish authorities, on "Improving animal welfare in shelters", will be held on Saturday 12 April.
