Scientific Committees: open call for experts in nanotechnology
Brussels , September 4 - The Commission would like to draw your attention to the open Call for expression of interest for experts in nanotechnology. The selected experts will assist the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety in the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetic products .
Article 16 of the Cosmetic Regulation EC No 1223/2009 requires any cosmetic product containing nanomaterials to be notified to the Commission six months prior to being placed on the market. When there are concerns over the safety of a nanomaterial, the Commission will refer it to the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) for evaluation.
To meet the expected demand for safety assessments of nanomaterials in cosmetic products, the Commission Health and Consumers Directorate General intends to identify relevant experts who will assist the work of the SCCS.
Work of the SCCS
SCCS is an independent advisory body established by the Commission. Its members are chosen on the basis of scientific excellence and they advise the Commission on issues associated with consumer safety.
