Animal Health and Welfare (26-09-2011)
Animal Welfare Education: the work continues
The European Commission's Health and Consumers Directorate General and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe are organising the first regional workshop on animal welfare tailor made for veterinary practitioners.
Veterinarians have an important role as a source of expertise and knowledge for the general public and animal keepers as well as to policy makers. The workshop aims to provide veterinarians with a deeper understanding of animal welfare and will focus primarily on animal welfare legislation, critical welfare issues and species-specific welfare assessment schemes.
The workshop will consist of both a theoretical as well as a practical on-farm session, where participants can put their theoretical knowledge in to practice.
The workshop is mainly targeted at veterinary farm animal practitioners from Hungary but will also be attended by veterinarians from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Some places will also be reserved for veterinary or animal health related students and producers.
