Animal welfare internet consultation: now available in all 20 official EU languages
DG Health and Consumers
The internet consultation on the welfare of farm animals, launched by the European Commission on 8 November has aroused considerable public interest, with almost 20,000 responses received to date. In order to facilitate wider participation among citizens of all EU 25 Member States and other countries, the number of language versions of the consultation has now been increased to all 20 official EU languages. On account of this, the original closing date of 11 December for responding to the online survey has also been extended to 20 December 2005. This consultation aims to assess the level of public awareness of farm animal welfare issues, and to gauge how important they are for EU citizens. The results of the survey will be published on the Commission website in early 2006.
