Commission reinforces cooperation with main veterinary associations to improve welfare of horses during transport

A forum on "Improving the welfare of horses during transport" will be organised by the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, the British Equine Veterinary Association and the World Horse Welfare organisation, with the support of the European Commission, on Monday, November, 29 in Brussels.

Over 100 participants, including Member States representatives, scientific experts, national veterinary organisations, animal transport associations, animal welfare organisations, equine breeder and industry associations are expected to be present at the event.

The forum aims to improve the welfare of horses during transportation and to reinforce cooperation in this area. The main focus will be on the enforcement of current legislation, mainly the definition of effective control systems, critical control points and good practices. The participants will also have the opportunity to discuss health risks, horse identification and registration, trade flows and the effect of closing horse slaughterhouses.
