Commission to present EU Animal Health and Welfare policies at the second Chinese–European pig Summit

The European Commission will present the European Union's Animal Health and Welfare policies during the second Chinese-European Pig Summit, to be held tomorrow in Hanover, Germany.

The event is hosted by EuroTier 2010, the top event for animal production, and organized by the German Agricultural Society (DLG)

Representatives from governments, research, academia, pig industry stakeholders on both sides will come together at EuroTier 2010 and will focus on global trends and opportunities in China's pig production and pork processing market. More than 100 of the 220 participants will come from China.

As pig production is increasing in China, the European Union is focusing more than ever on animal welfare in relation to pig housing and management. Animal health challenges are also tackled in view of a profitable and sustainable production.

The Chinese-European Pig Summit will address issues of mutual interest relating to pig health, animal welfare and regulations for pig production in China and Europe.
