Consumer protection is about making sure all consumer products (not just food) sold in the EU is safe, making sure consumers rights are properly protected, that they have the information they need to make an informed choice and that they are not misled. This applies whether consumers are shopping in their local supermarket, while travelling around the EU, or on a website based in another EU Member State.

We have around 70 officials based in Brussels who manage the EU's laws on these issues, and who work with national governments to ensure the rules are applied. These officials work closely with consumer organisations from around the EU. They manage assistance programmes to help them making their voice heard in Brussels and they also fund EU level projects and studies on consumer issues.
