CSDN brings together policymakers and civil society on issues related to peace and conflict. CSDN aims to contribute to strengthening the capacity of the EU and civil society to anticipate, analyse, respond and prevent threats to stability and human development that are posed by violent conflicts and crises. Since 2010, 3130 participants have attended over 90 civil society dialogue events organised in the context of CSDN. The programme is co-financed by the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) and the EU’s Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace.

The start-up funding provided amounts to 20 million from the EU budget and 3 million from Italy as the first founding donor. Additional funding is foreseen for 2015. The EU Trust Fund will initially focus on support to refugees and host communities in Syria's neighbouring countries.
