Election Observation: Under the EU’s instrument for promoting human rights and democracy, FPI finances and prepares jointly with the EEAS EU missions to observe and assess elections in partner countries with a view to ensuring they are fair and democratic: Examples: notable elections observed by the EU and financed by FPI in 2012 included Senegal and Libya. The annual budget is approximately EUR 38 million, with up to10 major missions a year.

Cooperation with industrialised countries (like US, Canada, Japan, Australia etc) in pursuing EU interests and engaging with partners that share similar political, economic values are major political and trading partners, and play an active role in multilateral fora and in global governance with which the Union has a strategic interest in promoting links. The annual budget is approximately EUR 24 million.

Press and public diplomacy: conducting public outreach activities and supporting the EEAS and EU delegations in communicating the message about EU foreign policy. Example: The EU for example supports the broadcasting of news from Europe in the Farsi language (Iran). Annual budget EUR 12 million, includes diplomatic outreach activities in over 134 delegations around the world.
