EU Maritime Security Inspections

Maritime security inspections are a new activity for the European Commission since the Commission has received the competencies to conduct inspections in this field. The aim of the inspections is to monitor the application by Member States of Regulation (EC) n° 725/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Commission Regulation (EC) n° 884/2005 (10 June 2005). The Commission in accordance with Article 9 of Regulation 725/2004 undertakes the monitoring of Member States including Inspections that are conducted at the level of national administrations, of a suitable sample of port facilities, Recognised Security Organisations, ships and relevant companies.
