7th Framework Programme - FP7 (2007-2013)
Transport (including Aeronautics) in FP7
Transport
Research Objectives
Based on technological and operational advances and on the European transport policy,
the objectives are to develop integrated, safer, “greener” and “smarter”
pan-European transport systems for the benefit of all citizens
and society and climate policy, respecting the environment and natural resources;
and securing and further developing the competitiveness attained by the
European industries in the global market.
The Transport theme of FP7 takes a holistic “transport systems”
approach in addressing the different challenges, by considering the interactions
of vehicles or vessels, networks or
infrastructures and the use of transport services. Such an
approach necessitates the integration of new concepts, knowledge and
technologies within a socio-economic and policy context.
What will be
funded?
Under FP7 Directorate-General Energy & Transport will develop two large industrial and
infrastructural programmes, SESAR and Galileo, as well as « traditional »
activities derived from the Transport White Paper and its mid-term review.
In the transport
work programme, the areas that mainly will be managed by Directorate-General Energy & Transport priorities are:
-
Air Traffic Management - SESAR
The Joint Undertaking SESAR (Council Regulation N° 219/2007, J.O.L64/2.3.2007
)
will realise a large industrial initiative, which aims at developing new
technologies and means to manage the increase of air traffic in Europe in the
future. SESAR will consolidate the efforts of the European industry, Eurocontrol
and the European Community and is foreseen to manage the research activities
which will focus on new systems and technologies for air traffic management, the
integration and validation of projects etc.
-
GALILEO
The
GNSS Supervisory Authority
(Règlement (CE) n° 1321/2004)
will manage all GALILEO research activities. They will aim at the further
modernisation of the system and the next generations of technologies and
services, such as the development of services for transport and other sectors,
the evolution of space and terrestrial components, the adaptation of receivers,
etc.
-
Urban Transport
(including the continuation of the
CIVITAS Initiative
on clean urban transport
strategies, innovative mobility concepts, high quality public transport systems)
- Logistics and intermodal transport, rail and its
interoperability, maritime transport (short sea shipping, motorways of the sea,
inland waterways), traffic management including intelligent systems, aspects of
airports which are not covered by SESAR,
- Instruments for the development and evaluation of
policies.
