Commission takes the United Kingdom to the Court of Justice for infringing EU employment rules on road transport

On 5 June the European Commission lodged proceedings against the United Kingdom for failure to comply with European employment legislation relating to road transport activities.

Training of professional drivers: Commission takes Portugal and Greece to Court of Justice

On 5 June the European Commission decided to launch proceedings in the European Court of Justice against Portugal and Greece for failing to transpose the Directive on the training of professional drivers and to notify measures for its implementation. This Directive provides for compulsory initial qualification and periodic training of drivers of road vehicles for the carriage of goods or passengers.

Commission gives go-ahead for finance packages for airports at Lublin and Gdańsk

The European Commission on 4 June approved assistance for PLN 296.6 million (€84.1 million) for the construction of a new Polish airport at Lublin Świdnik. It also gave a green light to public funding for a total of PLN 6 million (€1.7 million) to develop another airport, Gdańsk Rębiechowo.

Commission brings actions before Court of Justice against several Member States for incorrect transposal of Electricity and Gas Directives

The European Commission on 5 June decided to bring an action before the Court of Justice against Belgium for failure to transpose correctly into its national legislation the provisions of the Directives on the internal electricity and gas markets. It also decided to bring an action against Poland for incorrect transposal of the Electricity Directive. This decision comes a month after decisions to refer Sweden and Greece to the Court for incorrect transposal of the Electricity and Gas Directives and to address a reasoned opinion to Hungary for incorrect transposal of the Electricity Directive.

Nuclear issues in the web site of Energy & Transport DG 

Leak in Slovenian Nuclear Power Plant confined. Situation fully under control

For the sake of transparency, the Commission informed on 4 June about the alert message from Slovenia at 17h38 local time about the loss of coolant that took place in the primary cooling system of the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant. The Krško Nuclear Power Plant is located in Krško, in South-West Slovenia.
According to the last information received by the Slovenian authorities, the reactor was completely shut down at 19h30. The relatively small leakage remained within the containment building. The Slovenian authorities have confirmed that there has been no discharge to the environment. The situation can be considered fully under control.

The Commission immediately transmitted this information to all Member States.
