Roadmap on visa free travel opens EU doors to Montenegro

On 28 May European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot, in charge of Justice, Freedom and Security, welcomed the transmission of the Roadmap on visa liberalisation to Montenegrin Foreign Affairs Minister Milan Rocen, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Gordana Djurovic and Minister of Interior Jusuf Kalamperovic, today in a ceremony which took place in Podgorica. The Roadmap gives clear indications to the Montenegrin authorities on the measures that need to be taken in order to grant visa free travel to all its citizens in the near future.

Internal Energy Market on DG Transport and Energy website

Commissioner Piebalgs welcomes the cooperation between Europe's two biggest energy spot markets

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomed on 30 May the EEX and Powernext joint venture as a step forward in creating a well-functioning market. In a press conference organised today in Brussels to present the new cooperation between German and French spot markets for electricity, Commissioner Piebalgs said "I am pleased to stand here today and bear witness to an important agreement, which, I hope, also means great progress for the European electricity market. Efficient power exchanges are indeed an issue that the European Commission's Energy Policy for Europe recognised as a key requirement for a well functioning electricity market".

Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign

Commissioner Piebalgs welcomes the entry of a supermarket chain as a new electricity supplier in the Belgian market

Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs has welcomed on 29 May the launch of Carrefour Energie EcoPlanet, a program that will make the supermarket chain a new provider in the Belgian electricity market. The Carrefour Group, one of the Partners of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, is the first European retailer to sell electricity to final consumers.

EU-Norway Bilateral cooperation in Energy & Transport

EC-Norway Energy Dialogue: boosting cooperation in the internal energy market, offshore wind and Carbon Capture and Storage projects

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mrs Åslaug Haga, met in Brussels on 29 May to exchange views on various energy related issues of mutual interest. Particular emphasis was placed on bilateral cooperation, liberalisation of the energy markets and focus on renewable energy and the commitment of both sides to promote Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects. Norway is the EU's second most important supplier of oil and gas – gas imports from Norway are expected to reach 100 BCM this year.

EU Campaign for Efficient Energy Driving

The Commission launches a campaign to promote energy efficient driving

Energy Commissioner The European Commission, together with Europia, one of the partners of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, have launched on 27 May a number of actions to promote energy efficient driving habits among European car users. "To reach our ambitious targets of CO2 reduction and energy savings we have to make a big effort in all sectors. In certain cases this will require high tech solutions, but in others we just need to apply some common sense. This campaign provides a set of simple tips to reduce CO2 emissions and save money, simply by driving more intelligently. Learning a few tricks will help EU citizens to keep more fuel in their tanks, more money in their pockets and more CO2 out of the atmosphere," said Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.

Text of MoU between the EU and Turkmenistan

The EU and Turkmenistan strengthen their energy relations with a Memorandum of Understanding

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs in the presence of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbankuly Berdymuhammedov signed on 26 May in Turkmenistan a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at reinforcing mutual cooperation in the field of Energy. This document takes EU-Turkmenistan relations to a higher level by officialising bilateral energy cooperation in such areas as investment, production, energy technology, energy efficiency, renewables, and the transport and trade of energy products.
