Air transport: Commission takes note of today's Court judgment in the Olympic file
 

The Court of Justice on 14 February confirmed that Greece has failed to comply with a Commission decision adopted in 2005 finding that it had granted illegal and incompatible aid to Olympic Airways Services and Olympic Airlines, and asking for such aid to be recovered.

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomes agreement on the implementation of the interconnection project between Lithuania and Poland

Energy Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, welcomed the agreement signed on 12 February between the Lithuanian and Polish Transmission System Operators to implement the interconnection project. The two Transmission System Operators signed a joint venture agreement, which will implement the interconnection project of Lithuanian and Polish power systems. The joint venture will be in charge of all the preparatory works for the cross-border transmission line.

Commissioner Piebalgs meets stakeholders in Germany to discuss the climate and energy package

Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has on 13 February travel to the German state of Sachsen-Anhalt. The Commissioner has been accompanied during his visit by the Minister of Economic Affairs of Sachsen-Anhalt, Dr Reiner Haseloff. He has meet the state's Minister-President Dr Wolfgang Böhmer and representatives of industry and other stakeholders with an interest in renewable energy. The visit will offer an opportunity to exchange views about the climate and energy package adopted by the Commission in January. This package includes a Directive ensuring that 20% of the EU's energy needs will be met from renewable sources by 2020.

Commissioner Andris Piebalgs welcomes the solution of the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute

Commissioner Andris Piebalgs has welcomed the agreement announced on 12 February in Moscow between Russia and Ukraine to solve the recent commercial gas dispute.

Commission approves regulatory regime for the Austrian section of the Nabucco gas pipeline

The Commission has approved, on 8 February,  an exemption of the Austrian section of the Nabucco natural gas pipeline from regulated third party access in line with EU legislation. However, it has requested the Austrian energy regulator to include additional safeguards regarding future capacity allocation, in order to ensure that the planned pipeline will have a positive effect on competition.

PROGRESS Final Conference on renewable energy support
The European Commission-supported project PROGRESS will celebrate its Final Conference in London on 25 February 2008.

The Conference focuses on the analyses PROGRESS delivered to the European Commission on financial support frameworks, systems of guarantees of origin, administrative barriers, grid barriers and the market of renewable energy sources in EU Member States.
