State aid: the Commission considers that the German state aid for Kiel-Holtenau Airport conforms to the joint task scheme already approved in 2005

The Commission decided on 13 November not to raise any objections regarding planned financial support under the joint Federal/Lšnder scheme for improvement of regional economic structures, for the extension of the runway at Kiel-Holtenau Airport.

Airport slot allocation: for a better use of scarce airport capacity in Europe

The European Commission  adopted on 15 November a Communication on the operation of the amended slot allocation Regulation of 2004. The Communication concludes that there have been improvements in the use of scarce airport capacity, but there is still some room for improvement, especially where it concerns market access and efficient use of slots.

More choice and lower costs when booking airline tickets: the Commission advocates more competition in airline ticket distribution

The European Commission adopted on 15 November a proposal to simplify and modernise the two-decade-old rules for computerised reservation systems (CRS). These systems are used by travel agents to book airline tickets on behalf of their customers. The revised rules will allow CRSs and subscribing travel agents to expand their offer and better compete in the airline distribution market.

Commissioner Piebalgs calls for intensified international energy cooperation

Cooperation is the only way to achieve security of energy supply, sustainable economic development and climate protection, said EU energy Commissioner Piebalgs, during the Ministerial Forum at the 20th World Energy Congress in Rome on 13 November. In a discussion with ministers from Italy, Russia, China, Algeria and Qatar, he argued for stronger frameworks to manage growing international interdependence.

Historical first visit of the Energy Commissioner to Turkmenistan to enhance energy cooperation

On 14 November Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs made an official visit to Turkmenistan. This was the first ever visit of an EU Energy Commissioner to Turkmenistan. During the visit, Commissioner Piebalgs intends to follow-up and expand discussions launched during the visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov on 5 - 6 November in Brussels about the strengthening of cooperation in the energy sector.
