Lancement des négociations entre la Suisse et l’UE pour un accord dans le domaine de l'électricité

Ce 8 novembre s’est tenue à Bruxelles la première réunion de négociation entre la Suisse et l’UE dans le domaine de l’électricité. La Suisse, qui occupe une position centrale dans le réseau électrique européen est un partenaire essentiel pour l’UE dans le bon fonctionnement du marché intérieur de l’électricité. L’accord qui est négocié devrait en particulier porter sur les principes et les règles communs pour la mise en place d’un marché intégré de l’électricité entre l’UE et la Suisse garantissant à la fois la sécurité d’approvisionnement des parties et le respect de l’environnement dans le secteur de la production d’électricité.

Commission to sign a Joint Declaration on priorities for energy co-operation with Jordan

The European Commission represented by Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and Commissioner for Energy, Andris Piebalgs, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, represented by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan, Khaled Najidb Elshuraydeh will sign 31 October a Joint Declaration on priorities for co-operation in the energy sector between the European Commission and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Declaration will be signed in the margins of the Conference on energy security hosted by the European Commission and the Egyptian Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Sharm El Sheikh.

EU meets its southern energy partners in Egypt

On 1 November 2007, the European Commission and the Arab Republic of Egypt will bring together for the first time key energy players from the EU and the South to debate common challenges and policies in the field of energy security. The EU-Africa-Middle East Energy Conference will be held in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and will be hosted by the External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab republic of Egypt, Ahmed Aboul Gheit with the participation of Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs. It is an opportunity for participants from the EU, Africa and the Middle East to discuss co-operation in enhancing regional energy security, addressing climate change and improving access to energy services. By identifying issues of common interest and areas for trans-regional co-operation in the energy sector for hydrocarbons and renewables, as well as energy efficiency, the Conference will provide an added value to the existing Euro-Mediterranean energy cooperation and the EU-GCC energy cooperation.

Commissioner Piebalgs visits state-of-the-art renewable facilities in Germany

Commissioner Andris Piebalgs will on 29 October visit a range of renewable energy installations in the "Energy Cluster Lubmin" in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Commissioner will be accompanied by the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Dr Harald Ringstorff. The visit takes place as the Commission is preparing a package of proposals on renewable energy and climate change for adoption in January. The package will include a Directive ensuring that 20% of the EU's energy needs will be met from renewable sources by 2020.

Commissioner Piebalgs endorses Mario Monti's work programme for France-Spain the electrical link 

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs endorsed on 26 October  the work programme of Mario Monti, the coordinator of the electrical interconnection between France and Spain through the Pyrenees. The main objective of Mr Monti's work will be to propose solutions that could satisfy all the actors at national but also at regional and local level while fully addressing the need to strengthen the security of energy supply and power interconnections between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe.
