Commission authorises Belgium to support intermodal transport by Flemish inland waterways
 

The European Commissiondecided on 10 May not to raise any objections to Belgian State aid aimed at shifting container transport from road to inland waterways. Under the new scheme, a subsidy will be granted per each container transhipped to an inland container terminal from or to an inland waterway vessel.

Commission authorises Czech State aid to support purchase of new railway rolling stock
 

The European Commission decided on 10 May not to raise any objections to the aid scheme proposed by Italian authorities to compensate motorway toll costs imposed on road hauliers. The scheme is a result of the mandatory diversion of traffic from the Lake Maggiore trunk road to the motorway.

Commission gives green light for State aid to protect Lake Maggiore area in Piedmont Region

The European Commission launched a public consultation on "biofuel issues in the new legislation on the promotion of renewable energy", addressing issues such as how to achieve a 10% biofuel share and how to ensure environmental sustainability. The consultation follows upon the recently adopted Energy Policy for Europe. This included a proposal for a binding 20% target for the overall share of renewable energy by 2020 and a binding 10% target for the share of biofuels in transport. The consultation is aimed at helping the Commission draft proposals on incorporating these targets into legislation.

The so-called "TEN-T Days", opened today, host around 400 participants from all over Europe. It offers a unique opportunity to discuss the results achieved so far and to learn about further prospects and possibilities under the new programme.

Commissioner Piebalgs opens the first Latvian agency of the Intelligent Energy programme

Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs inaugurated the first energy agency in Latvia, which was supported by the European Commission Intelligent Energy Europe programme. The programme supports the establishment of new regional or local energy agencies in order to help public authorities, and their communities, improve their energy efficiency and make the most of locally based renewable energy resources.
