Commission authorises, subject to conditions, public service obligations on air routes to Sardinia
 

The Commission has decided to authorise Italy's introduction of public service obligations (PSOs) on 16 routes linking Sardinia's three airports to the principal airports on the Italian mainland, but subject to conditions in order to avoid restrictions on the launch of new air services.

Airport infrastructure: financing of Tallinn airport does not fall under competition rules

The European Commission decided on the 24th of April not to raise any objections to two investment projects by Airport of Tallinn Ltd. The investments are geared at rehabilitating the Tallinn airport airside area, upgrading the Tallinn airport passenger terminal and constructing a phyto-sanitary and veterinary border inspection point.

Today the Commission decided on the 24th of April to approve the payment of €95.3 million in aid to the freight transhipment and logistics firm InterFerryBoats. The decision is based on a restructuring plan aimed at reducing the firm's capacity and focusing on its core business.

The European Commission has decided not to raise any objections to the contribution of the Dutch State to the Rotterdam Mainport Development Project. By responding to the growing demand for dock and port areas, the project will solve the future space shortage in the harbour of Rotterdam.

Road safety: European action plan continues to deliver results – target of saving 25 000 lives on Europe's roads by 2010 is attainable 

The Commission's European Road Safety Action Plan, launched in 2001, may reach its target on schedule. The aim is to halve the number of fatalities on Europe's roads over the period 2001-2010, reducing the total number of deaths from almost 50 000 to 25 000. The latest figures, released on the occasion of the first European Road Safety Day, show clearly that this ambitious objective was justified: in 2006, nearly 12 000 lives were saved in the European Union in comparison with 2001.

The first stone of the Samsun – Ceyhan oil pipeline was laid on the 24th of April by the TAPCO company formed by Calik and Eni. This new infrastructure will link the Turkish ports of Samsun in the Black Sea with the South East Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

Russian Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko and Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs have agreed on restructuring the EU-Russia Energy Dialogue thematic groups. This was discussed and confirmed at the bilateral meeting that top energy officials of the EU and the Russian Federation held  to evaluate latest developments in bilateral energy relations.
