Public hearing on the Strategic EU Energy Review

Following the public consultation that was launched after the adoption  of the  Green Paper for a European strategy for sustainable, competitive and secure energy  in March 2006, stakeholders and the public have been given the opportunity to express their views on the Strategic EU Energy Review directly. The latter is scheduled to be adopted by the Commission on 10 January 2007. To this end, a public hearing has been organised in Brussels (Room S3, Charlemagne Building, rue de la Loi 170, Brussels) on Friday 22 September 2006, starting at 9h30.

What are the EU energy challenges? Speech by Commissioner Piebalgs at the “Offshore Northern Seas Conference 2006”   [full text]

Commissioner Piebalgs presented a review of some of the elements which have brought North Sea region to become a key oil and gas producer for the European Union. He continued by introducing a vision of “what the EU’s energy challenges are” as well as the EU’s response to facing them: the development of a new “Energy Policy for Europe”.
